PENNINE LEAGUE DIVISION 3 Whitehall Warriors 0 Undercliffe Wild Boars 6 Whitehall were caught napping as Undercliffe surged forward and took advantage of a totally disorganised Warriors defence to score within 3 minutes of the kick off. Kenny Smith, Undercliffe’s stand off, was the scorer and Aiden Booth added the extra 2 points with the goal kick. A blasting from Coach Richard Darkes under the sticks woke his Warriors up and Baz Stead used his big forwards, Williams and Higson, to make good inroads into Wild Boar territory. Marcus Gill and Alex Scargill were both held just short of the line and unfortunately Stead’s pass to Scrimshaw was too low for the centre to take with the line at his mercy. At the other end of the pitch, Richard Casanove, Ollie Dugdale and Daniel Raika were working overtime in defence and Andy Sadler managed to turn his man on to his back over the try line. Half time came with no further scoring and, with the retirement through injury of Captain and General Baz Stead and scrum half Paul Stead, Whitehall were left with no creativity in the side. Although Ollie Dugdale and James Spivey tried hard to put together some rhythm, the talents of clinical finishers Chris Scrimshaw, Andrew Green and Gareth Simpson were never fully exploited. With the weather deteriorating handling errors crept into both sides and the elusive try that the warriors were seeking never came. On Saturday Whitehall are away at Division 2 side Ovenden ‘A’ in the Handicap Cup.
